My V5 has returned from service (again, a rapid turn-around) and I’m very pleased.
I installed Windows 7 (off the MSDN website) on it last night (new install, not an upgrade) and everything is working except… Vitakey (the fingerprint software). Hmm.. seems like someone warned me about this… The Authentec (fingerprint) driver came through as a Windows update (but just to be sure I tried the beta driver from their site as well), and shows up as working properly in Device Manager, but Vitakey doesn’t find a fingerprint reader. I’ll contact Egistec and see what gives.
By the way, Windows 7 wasn’t aware of the touchscreen. I installed the latest Vista driver from Flybook and that did the trick.
I downloaded the latest Generic 3G Watcher from Sierra Wireless (it’s all black and deadly looking) and that worked fine right off the bat.
But oh dear… should have seen this one coming… with the new motherboard, I got the “no wireless in tablet mode” issue and none of the Vista hacks appear appropropriate for the Windows 7 Registry.
Anyone? Anyone?

Flybook says it has all the Windows 7 drivers so I’m hoping I can get the fingerprint reader going. I assume they’l be posting the Windows 7 set of drivers to Flybook.com soon…

can you help please
Sorry, I can’t help, but maybe someone else has an idea? Anyone?
Hi Newt
I looking to buy a V5, the are hard to find. I wondered what happened to your original motherboard. I also wanted to know where you had to send your V5 for repair now that Memphis is closed. I tried calling them because I wanted to get a unit with the outside screen and a larger hard drive that I was told was available directly from dialogue by one of the sales reps but I didn’t get and answer. I am currently using an Acer netbook, I love the size but it has nothing under the hood. Have you talked to anyone over at flybook lately?
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.
Angela
Angela,
I’m guessing I just knocked some chips loose but they had some spare motherboards laying around (it isn’t the most recent one) and it was easier and faster to just swap out the entire board rather than attempt a repair before returning.
I contacted them through Flybook.com which has the U.S. info on it. The repair facility is now located in California.
I’m ok hard drive-wise but that’s because my primary machine is still a desktop – but I’m with you in that an outdoor screen would go a long way.
I got a bit of info from them when they repaired mine – they *are* working on new units and models but don’t have anything ready to announce.
And the fingerprint drivers for Windows7?…. News???
The issue isn’t the driver, it’s getting the Vitakey software to recognize it. They say they are working on it. I sure would be interested in an alternative software!
We really have to wait then. In one of the recent updates of Windows 7 received biometric device drivers but also did not work correctly.
Hi!
While shopping for a new/2nd hand laptop, I just became aware of the V5. I also wanted to be able to run W7 on my new lappy, and Googling brought up your site
I was wondering, while I understand you’re having a couple of problems with drivers/software support, how is the performance compared to XP/Vista?
Cheers!
Griff
Griff,
Startup and shutdown is definitely faster. Applicaiton speed is faster, but since I also upgraded to 4GB of RAM at the same time, I can’t exactly quantify how much of the increase is due to OS vs. RAM.
Hi Friends!!!
http://www.egistec.com/download/index.html
Finally I installed the drivers for the biometric reader in my Flybook with Windows 7. The biometric reader this time was recognized correctly and is in perfect
operation.
Just remove all previous drivers and make the
download and installation.
You download the first option given the link
previously mentioned. Here is working 100%
The version of the VITAKEY software is 6.1.46
Fantastic!!!!!!!
Hey, you’re correct. I received an email from Egistec about it as well. I had to uninstall the Authentec driver first, then rebooted, installed Vitakey, rebooted, and it works! Thanks for the heads up!
Yeah! Log in in windows messenger only with a finger touch!!
