Flybook V5 Driver Updates… more and more

Just checked again and there are even more driver updates on the Dialogue.com.tw website (Member’s section):

Audio Driver 6.0.1.5657  dated: 2008.07.16
Bluetooth 5.2.227.9  dated: 2008.07.16
Fingerprint 5.0.0.8  dated: 2008.07.16
LAN 6.206.0502.2008  dated: 2008.07.09
3G Watcher R3.0.0.1 build 1761 dated: 2008.07.16

They all have readme files that have useful notes on installation (very nice). The following are a combination of that info and my own experiences.

Note: Vitakey Upgrade

The Fingerprint driver includes a new Version of Vitakey MC3020. However, in order to install it, you must first uninstall the existing version (be sure you have your Vitakey Serial Number in hand for the install). I started by backing up my user data file (Start Menu -> VitaKey > MC3020 > System > Back Up…). When I tried to uninstall Vitakey (v 5.0.0.6) (using the Uninstall option also on the Start Menu), I received a Setup error :”The system cannot find the file specifiedSetup.bin.” I have contacted EgisTec Customer Support (makers of Vitakey) asking how to proceed.

Update: 2008-08-01

Egistec sent me a link to their ftp site where I downloaded a setup_bin.rar file. Extracted that to my Vitakey\MC3020 directory and I was able to uninstall the program.

I installed the new version and it required a reboot. The readme file said when it returns from the reboot there will be a dialogue box and I should click “Run.” This didn’t happen. Instead, there was a message that appeared in the notification area that said there was a wizard that needed to run before you could use full functionality of the program (without naming the program). The message itself was not clickable. I went to the Start Menu and ran the Vitakey Settings program and *that* gave me a dialogue box that asked if I wanted to run System Wizard now.

Note: 3G Watcher

Just in case you don’t notice it, there is a small install progress note in the lower right corner of the screen. While normal install window may look like it is all done, the small progress window is showing the real installation progress. Also, at least for me, 3G Watcher always comes up “No device detected” until you do a shut down (not just a reboot) even though it doesn’t require it.

Note: Audio Driver

You have to run Setup.exe twice – first to uninstall existing driver and second time to install the new driver. It has to reboot in between the two. Well, those were the instructions anyway, but when it came up from the reboot, it said it was installing the Audio Device. Hmm… double checked in Device Manager – nope, not the new one. Ran Setup.exe the second time as it had instructed and it did indeed install the new version (took a few minutes and required another reboot).

Note: LAN Driver

When you run Setup.exe, select Repair option
