Vista SP1 hasn’t shown up yet on Windows Update for Flybook V5

Vista SP1 hasn’t shown up yet on Windows Update for my Flybook. According to Microsoft, there can be a multitude of reasons why this is the case. Driver incompatibility (of audio and/or fingerprint sensor) are two options I’ll want to look into. Yes, you *can* simply download the entire SP1 and install it manually, but I would like to know first if there are going to be driver issues.

Curiously, it hasn’t shown up on Windows Update for my Dell desktop either – so one possibility, not mentioned in Microsoft’s list of possible causes, is that it hasn’t rolled to my systems yet (they were going to *start* rolling it to systems mid-April).

Anyone have Vista SP1 installed on a Flybook V5 that didn’t come with it initially? And if so, was it through Windows Update or by manual installation?

  1. I have SP1 installed but it was when I did a clean install of Vista and only have minimal Flybook drivers/utilities installed (i.e the Camera). Vista Update automatically installed it. So far, I don’t really notice any difference.

  2. Till now (2008-May-12) nothing showed up with Windows Update on my V5 and Vista Business I d’nt know the effects of installing manually. So for some time I will wait and see.

  3. Manually updated SP1 Vista, memory still 3 GB

Tried to update realtek driver from realtek website, no change!!

  4. Luc, I wasn’t sure what you meant – did you get a V5 with 4GB of RAM? But even with SP1 it is still showing only 3GB?

After applying SP1 are sound, camera, and fingerprint reader working ok? I assumed it was one of those holding up the patch.

  5. Yes I Bought a V5 with 4GB memory.
Standard bug from Vista, just recognize 3 GB!!
But Vista SP1 repairs this bug with PC fully compatible VISTA!!!

So one of the Flybook driver should not be compatible

    Regards

  6. Actually, while Vista with SP1 is supposed to *show* that you have 4GB on your system, the amount of RAM it can *access* (3.5ish) remains the same. For those techies out there, this article explains the situation.

A quote from the article may explain why the V5 isn’t showing 4GB:

However, this behavior is dependent on having a compatible BIOS, so not all users may notice this change.
