Vista SP1 hasn’t shown up yet on Windows Update for Flybook V5

Vista SP1 hasn’t shown up yet on Windows Update for my Flybook. According to Microsoft, there can be a multitude of reasons why this is the case. Driver incompatibility (of audio and/or fingerprint sensor) are two options I’ll want to look into. Yes, you *can* simply download the entire SP1 and install it manually, but [...]

AT&T Update: Unlimited DataConnect plan no longer “unlimited”

As I’ve posted before, I have an Unlimited DataConnect plan from AT&T for $60/month. However, if you go looking for it now, you won’t find it. AT&T has apparently done away with “unlimited” in favor of a $60/month plan with a 5GB maximum. Practically speaking, even if this did affect me, it wouldn’t – my maximum [...]

Where do Newts sleep?

Ok, just had to post this. WordPress (hosting the Flyblog) lets you see all the search terms that people use to find your blog. “Where do News sleep” was someone’s search (without the quotes)… and they found the Flyblog?? Just out of curiosity, I tried it as a Google search and sure enough, the Flyblog [...]

Windows Experience Index on Old vs. New V5

Interesting to compare my WEI with the WEI from one of the new machines.
Mine (U2500 V5):

From a new U7600 V5:

No, I don’t have those backwards. What on earth did they do to the graphics?

No Wireless in Tablet Mode… Again (re: the new V5s)

A commenter reported that his new V5 (one assumes all new V5s that are currently shipping to the U.S.) came with a BIOS version 1.63. This bios update is not available on the Dialogue website (in fact, the V5 EC/BIOS upgrade has been removed entirely from their site - the one that was previously posted was ver 1.53). His V5 [...]

Is your Flybook your primary computer?

My good friend Jon, a computer nerd extraordinaire, uses his convertible as his primary computer. He hooks it up to an external monitor (for dual monitor setup) and bluetooth keyboard/mouse at both home and work. Now, his unit is larger than the Flybook, but it isn’t huge (maybe a 12″ screen?) and in both locations [...]

Playing with “not a Microsoft product” Inkseine

Jim Sparkman asked me if I had done anything with Inkseine (and helpfully included a link).
Why no! I hadn’t!
InkSeine is a prototype ink application from Microsoft Research. It is designed from the ground up to have a user interface uniquely tailored to pen input.
It is described as “Windows Journal on steroids” and they say it is meant [...]

Awakened by an Earthquake in Indiana

ok, it has absolutely nothing to do with my Flybook… just thought I would mention it. Happened at 5:39 this morning. It was very rhythmic – my first thought was some major piece of equipment outside. My hanging wine glasses started tinkling together and the pocket door on my bathroom was rattling. I’ve been in [...]

Hey Dialogue… bring back the color options!!

The Tablet-Profi entry I link to in the post below mentions that the most popular colors are Gold and Pink (of the four “colors” available on the V5). My V5 is silver. Probably the biggest bummer for me when they came out with the V5s was the reduced color options… the V33i has such a COOL range of colors! [...]

V6???

Don’t know anything about this blogger, but thanks to a tip from Ernst, I’ve read the couple of Flybook posts on the site. This one carries some intriguing info: Tablet-Profi.
(And yes, I am thrilled to hear that new bags are being selected. Sadly, I’ve become such a stereotype on my hunt for the perfect bag.)
