Second Life on the Fly

Ok, so this is a “work” computer… right?
A friend asked if it could run Second Life, so I decided to give it a go. It was a little slow to render, but is that because of the graphics chip, or the wi-fi connection?
Here I am at Chichen Itza (it’s really small, but you get the [...]

AT&T HSDPA Speedtest of the Day

Just got this one using the HSDPA connection:

Flybook V5 bag update

Ok, so still wanting a leather vertical cross-shoulder bag for the Flybook (something like this Tumi bag only smaller, more… Flybook… sized). I have, in fact, designed one – now if I could just find someone with the time and skills to make it for me…
But, in the meantime, I found this “Xhilaration Small Messenger [...]

First AT&T Data Connect Bill

Received my first AT&T bill. It all looks as anticipated – they did indeed waive the activation fee, and our testing phone calls were charged at $0.40/minute (the charge when you don’t have a voice plan). They prorated the two days I had the unit before they disconnected me (eyeroll), but I’m not going to [...]

(Flybook) Reading is Fun!

One of the reasons I was so enamored with the size of the Flybook V5 is that it isn’t much larger than a paperback book (and definitely smaller than a hard cover). I read a lot. I read with my morning coffee, I read on the bus, I read to take a break from work, [...]

Oh good grief! Lost the stylus already.

It’s going to be one of those months… I can just tell.
Whipped out the Flybook on the bus this morning to do a little reading and… no stylus! Well, of course I assumed it was at home. Nope! Guess I should have looked around the bus for a few seconds as I suppose it could [...]

The unboxing

Well, I said I would post the unboxing… took me long enough, huh?
Here they are!

Not a lot of volume

I tried lying in bed last night watching NCIS over the net. The picture came through just fine, but the volume was *really* low on its highest setting. I was missing too many under-the-breath comments and finally called it quits. I think I’ll pick up a cheap set of headphones (3.5mm jack). I doubt I’ll [...]

Flybook undocumented keyboard shortcuts to switch screen orientation

Fiddling around trying to do something else entirely, I stumbled upon keyboard shortcuts for changing the Flybook’s screen orientation (something I had actually looked for in the manual a couple of days ago).
Ctrl-Alt-choice of arrow keys:
Ctrl-Alt-Up Arrow > normal laptop orientation
Ctrl-Alt-Down Arrow > flips it upside down
using left and right arrows give you portrait orientations
Of course, [...]

Video showing how easy it is to connect the Flybook to AT&T’s HSDPA network

I’m going to attempt to upload a short video. While I normally use the stylus to click on the screen, I used the stick-pointer to navigate so that you could see what I was doing. Unfortunately, I’m not real handy with it.
